Abortion Bind And Gender Imbalances

In (2008) article entitled “Abortion Bind And Gender Imbalances,” Yale global points out that government gives women right to legal induced abortion, but it is used for sex-selective abortion, which causes gender imbalance. First of all he states that sex ratio changes a lot because many couples use ultrasounds to choose the sex of their children in India and China. The number of boys is much higher than that of girls. Next, he claims that the government uses a policy to limit sex- selective abortions, but it is reason of cultural beliefs. Third, he points out that the gender imbalances will make a lot of men become bachelors. The more bachelors they have, the more crime will happen. In the end, he points out that the sex- selective abortion also causes gender bias, which means people use new technology to choose boys.

It’s clear that sex- selective abortion is very common in India and China, which breaks crude birth discipline and causes gender imbalance. However, the couples who got higher education also would like to use ultrasound to choose their babies. Also the gender imbalance affects Americans. Furthermore, Many Chinese and Indian immigrant communities contribute to local economic development, but also bring some older tradition like problem for sons to continue the family name and bloodline.

First, the India and Chinese governments should let their people know that gender imbalance is a big problem right now; every person should have responsibility. The government can use media to promulgate that information. People should know if they have too many boys their sons will become bachelors in the future, which is very close to their life. Parents should know there are not enough resources for their children so the less children they have, the more survival opportunity their babies will get. The government should have a better social welfare, which will help their people accept their advice.

Second, the people who got higher education accept new things more easily. The government should limit of how many children each couple can have. Also, government should forbid hospital use of ultrasounds to help parents’ choose the sex of their babies. The people who are higher educated should know gender can not stand the achievement people have. The most important thing is whether this person tries his/her best to do something. Although some companies give different treatment to men and women, it will change in the future. There is no difference between men and women.

Third, there is a number of India and Chinese immigrants who are staying in the U.S. The groups of them become bigger and bigger; I believe that one day the number of the Indian and Chinese immigrant communities will be equal to the number of local people in U.S. Furthermore, the American government should take some actions to avoid away from gender imbalance, because India and Chinese immigrants want boys. Government should limit hospitals from helping people abort and do ultrasounds. Also, the U.S. should give people some good advice to forget some bad and older tradition.

In conclusion, the sex-selection is very bad for gender balance. Government and society should work together to change people’s mind about the old culture. Every person should have the responsible to their country and their children’s future.

India must meet new demographic challenge

In Hanada’s (2007) article, “India must meet new demographic challenge”, he points out that India has 1 billion people, so there was an interview for talking about population in India. These are three stages that will affect population growth changing; death and birth rates, good medical breakthrough and investment in health and education: economic and social development; the empowerment of women; and acceptance and availability of contraceptives. Second, he points out the reason why family planning didn’t success was that there were some cultural roots and gender selection. Third, he points out that age structure is more important than the size of the population. Also India is a new country; large population causes social problems, such as health systems and security. However more training and education and being careful of HIV or AIDS are most important for young people.
I agree with the reasons that population growth is changing. People should change the root which causes gender imbalance. Although age structure in India is very low, people should send their children to school. Therefore, India just has a large number of young people, but they do not have knowledge; their economy cannot develop. HIV and AIDS is a big killer for young people, so the government and society should work together far away from them.
First of all, people should change the root, which causes gender imbalance. Some roots are not right, which we should forget. For example, the idea that boy is better than a girl, or that near relative marriage is better. Men and women are the same; they can do the same job, play the same sports and work together. Government has a social security right now so parents do not need to be cared of their children. However, it always happens in some LDC’s because they need more hands to grow corn. The government should give some preferential treatment to encourage poor people to develop their local economy.
Next, although India has a low age structure, it is like a double-edged sword. It is easier for young people to do stupid things. Government should give young people something to do, give them good education and teach them some useful skill. If they have something to do, they will not have enough time to break rules. I think education can change people’s behavior and teach them how to contribute to their country. Furthermore, technology can make economy grow faster and faster, which makes a country more powerful.
Finally, it’s clearly that HIV and AIDS is the first killer for young people. I think most people do not watch out for it. Maybe they think it is far from them. The government should let young people watch some videos or give some speech, which helps them know how important it is. HIV and AIDS does not just happen around young people, it’s a social problem. I think parents should limit their children’s going to clubs or some dangerous place alone. Some entertainment places should limit young children from coming in.
In conclusion, we should change our roots and forget some bad cultures. Government should give young people some chance to work or have opportunity for studying. Government should forbid young people from going to some entertainment places and society should give them a good environment.

Gender imbalance a threat to stability

In Kontominas’s (2007) article entitled “ Gender imbalance a threat to stability,” he points out that Asian women are at risk because of the gender imbalance. First of all she states that sex trafficking and violence are around women because the number of adult women are outweighed by that of men. Next, she claims that people in China, India, Nepal and Vietnam prefer a son to a girl so they use sex selection to chose which baby they want. Sex selection causes gender imbalance, so it should be prohibited. Third, he points out that just closer regulation of foetal-scanning services does not work very well. People should change their minds to increase the value of women and protect women’s rights.
First, sex trafficking and violence against are very common in Asia countries. I think government should use laws to protect women’s rights. By the way, people need to know laws and know how to use laws to strengthen their rights. The people in Asia cannot take education for each person so they don’t know laws either. Furthermore, the best way is improve people’s quality of behaviors, people should know how to treat people very kindly and respect others’ rights. Therefore, the violence will be reduced and women will feel safety in their normal life.

Second, sex selection is technology that is used in bad way. The baby is innocent; parents cannot decide whether they want it or not. 10 years ago, most Chinese people thought son was better because more boys meant more hands can help. Furthermore, some people think children can take care of them when they are old. I think the reason is low education and poorly. If people have enough food to eat, they will not care whether is a girl or son. The government should develop their economy and widespread education.

Finally, closing regulation of foetal-scanning services does not work very well. Protect women’ rights requires to changing people’s value of women. Men and women are equal; men cannot use violence because they are stronger than women. Government should use media to improve social moral standards. For example, if people see a guy is hitting a woman, they should prevent it. Women also can build organizations to protect their rights by themselves. People should know women are most important for society; they have the same value as men do.

In conclusion, if people get high education and have improved social moral standards, sex trafficking and violence against women will disappeared one day. In fact, the gender imbalance is in Asia because people are very poor and most cannot feed themselves. Government should use laws and media to change civic behaviors.

Travel

The oil price becomes higher and higher because resources are very poor. Oil is the first energy right now, so it limits business developing. This is a big problem that is close to us. We drive our car to go to work, go to school and go shopping. We cannot live without cars. Also a car needs to drink oil every day. On the other hand, if the oil price gets much higher, we should pay more money for feeding our car. For example, our income is $500 per month; my car needs 30 gallon per month. The oil price is $4 per gallon, so my oil fee is $120 per month. If the oil price gets higher by $1, I should pay $30 more. It’s a big deal for me. I will think that I should sell my car and buy a bicycle. People same as me may go out by bus or on foot. Driving car is very convenient and fast, so our living steps will become more slow. I will leave my house much earlier; it means I lose 20 minutes for sleeping. It’s also a big problem for me, because I should hold many bags in my hands.
